Communism in the Czech Republic: Walking Through History

A walking tour through Prague taught me more than I ever learned in history class

Prague is considered a jewel of Europe, and must not be missed.

While admiring the pristine medieval town, we learn the Czech Republic was under Communist rule until 1989. And while we can see the effects of Communism throughout the city, miraculously, the old town was left untouched.

The best way I have found to learn about a city is to take a walking tour. There are plenty of unique tours and experiences in every city, and I recommend exploring them.

But it was the Communism Tour of Prague that caught my eye, and decided this was worth taking. On the day I went, I was fortunate to have the guide to myself, so a 3 hour tour turned into 5.

This was one of the most fascinating tours I’ve ever been on, and I learned more from this experience than I ever had from any history class I’d taken.
