Don’t Read Another “How To Get 100 Followers” Article! Do This Instead

Instead of begging for your first 100 Medium followers, do what will actually work

Let me give you some not-so-gentle-but-well-intended advice:

DON’T FOLLOW FOR FOLLOW!!!!!

Listen, I understand completely. You need to get at least 100 followers to become a Medium Partner and to become monetized. So I get the need to get there as quickly as possible. And while it sounds like the “follow for follow” idea will be an immediate solution, you are setting yourself up for a long road of disappointment and frustration.

Here’s why.

Your first articles won’t be amazing

I know you’re chomping at the bit to get started here. You have some amazing ideas. I have no doubt they are amazing.

But also know the people who are most successful on Medium have earned that success through a lot of time and effort. They’ve developed a rhythm to their writing that only comes from experience of knowing what works. And a lot of that experience was discovering what didn’t work. That took a lot of time. And a wasteland of really terrible articles.
