It wasn’t long after I touched down at DXB the first time that I understood why so many of my friends raved about Dubai. I was about to find out why this city was nicknamed “The Pearl Of The Middle East.”
A touch of modern, a touch of old
I first visited Dubai about a decade ago riding the heady wave of surging interest in this cosmopolitan city. Back then, my Air India flight from JFK left early Saturday evening, so I stayed at one of those quaint Palm Jumeirah hotels with some buddies on our way to catch an Emirates horse race before things really got started that night. We were impressed by both sides — Bedouin heritage and glitzy modern life, all wrapped up into one incredible place.
The tall skyscrapers, the glistening luxury hotels, and a carnival atmosphere of gorgeous ground zero Dubai attractions were simply dazzling. It didn’t take me long to pinpoint what was so unique about this place — it’s in-your-face flamboyance was unlike anything else I had ever seen before!
