I‘m not going to watch the video. I don’t need to. And without even watching, we can glean a hell of a lot just based on the people who buy into this.

First, people who feel powerless and vulnerable are susceptible to buy into conspiracy theories. So that’s really telling.

What we have going on is mostly far-right people aligning with this. There are some who are simply frustrated and have lost the desire to flatten the curve for the greater good.

But there’s a political angle here. For those who look at everything through the filter of politics, there has to be an opposite position.

So if the shelter in place and flatten the curve position saves lives but damages the economy, that has the potential to damage Trump because he ran on the economy. Therefore, the hand they’ve forced themselves to play is to diminish the virus itself.

That’s the narrative they’re building here. Find doctors and researchers who will agree with a contrarian position. “This is a hoax, it’s not serious, herd immunity, anti-vax… etc etc”

And when you have to resort to conspiracy theories, you know your reality is crumbling. Not a good place anyone would want to be.
