This day has a special meaning to me. It is all about relationships

Memories of Christmas past. 20 years ago.

I love this picture. My friend Craig (in the red robe) and I were so poor, we had to go to the discount rack at Ross to buy funny, broken gifts, like the one eyed Christmas rooster.

But it was one of the happiest nights I had ever had.

A few months before this, my life looked very different.

My circle before this treated me very poorly. In fact, I remember my best friend at the time telling me “People don’t have to treat you with respect if they don’t want to.” And everyone I knew demonstrated it. I got kicked out of a wedding, and got kicked off the hockey team I helped start.

I felt so alone.

But things change. If you’re surrounded by shitty people, you can start all over. Know there are wonderful folks out there who will welcome you into their lives and appreciate you. Go find them.

So I started all over. I abandoned that horrible circle, and over the next few months I went on to meet new people. These people.

That’s what this night was to me. A culmination of a rough year.
