Respectfully, we are in a particularly volatile situation here, in which we have determined the consequence for failure to flatten the curve will far exceed the damage to the economy.

This action has to happen, we must act quickly, we all have to participate in flattening the curve, and we really don’t have time to debate whether we should.

People who feel that their liberty to “do what they want” outweighs the common good in this case have the potential to cause extreme damage by increasing the death count, and prolonging the quarantine.

I see a number of people who subscribe to more extreme political ideologies, and defend their belief system with demonstrated false reports and studies, and embrace ridiculous conspiracy theories. I’m not inclined to listen to them, nor allow their misguided ideas make matters worse.

For those who would cause damage to everyone else because they don’t believe that this is real, or simply don’t care about everyone else, for those who refuse to listen to reason and are committed to “do what they want”, I believe we should use whatever tools we have available to prevent them from doing so.

I do, however, believe that we should always reflect and consider what we believe. Perhaps there is a more efficient way. Perhaps we are operating on false or outdated data. We need to act with the best information we can get. I am certainly open to finding the best data. If something is contrarian, it’s going to be an uphill battle for it to be believed, so there better be facts behind it.

I just ask that we do it without endangering others in the process.
