The 3 Types of Bullies, and How to Defeat Them
Find what motivates them, and you can render them powerless
Bullying is an imbalance of power.
A person who would use their power against a weaker person reveals a weakness in themselves. But bullying is antisocial behavior, and there is usually a motivation for their behavior. If you can find what motivates them, you can render them powerless.
Here’s a simple analysis of three types of bullies, and a strategy to deal with each:
1. King of the Castle
This person will bully others simply because they can. They were gifted with certain privilege (looks, money, strength, etc), and have absolutely no regard for others. They have very low emotional intelligence. It’s a game of “might makes right” for them. Examples of “King of the castle” are the jocks from Revenge Of The Nerds, Biff from Back to the Future, and Donald Trump.
- Their Power: Using their resources (strength, money) to perpetuate an imbalance of power.
- Their Weakness: They probably do this to many people, so they have a lot of enemies.
- Your Strategy: Strength in numbers. Gather their enemies together to overpower the bully.
