Thinking vs Reacting Over the Coronavirus Crisis
Use this as an opportunity to sharpen critical thinking skills
Facing the Coronavirus pandemic and resulting economic, social and cultural reverberations has put us all at unease. As I read somewhere, “fear is the currency of the moment”.
How do we approach this crisis? How do we make sense out of it, and how can we best position ourselves?
I tend to look at life through the filter of “thought process”, in that we become what we focus on. I think that’s a pretty good starting point when dealing with the unknown.
As I filter through messaging from social media and friends, I can see all different reactions and thought processes.
The reactions fall on a spectrum — on one end, “This isn’t actually happening” and on the other, “This is the end of the world”.
Understanding thought process helps to make sense out of things. Panic is our survival instinct kicking in. Denial is a defense mechanism, which is also a survival instinct.
I’m more interested in intelligent thought process than reaction and panic, in that intelligent thought process is more useful to me. Knowing to identify it and separate it from the noise will benefit us tremendously.
