Last week, I told you my 9-year-old daughter tested positive for COVID-19.

I am glad to report she is symptom-free, and as long as she remains so, she can return to school on Tuesday. I want to thank everyone for their concern and for reaching out — and for the axolotl pictures!

This is the best outcome, and for that I am happy, but I would have been happier if it never happened at all.

I have to admit a sense of “survivor’s guilt” when I think about the people who did not have as happy an outcome. I looked back at the daily updates for a friend I lost last month, to see his sister holding on to any sense of hope, for those brief moments in which it looked like he may have found his way out of this. And to juxtapose those moments with the tragic outcome — it’s just too much to take.

I had hoped enough people would recognize the seriousness of this pandemic to at least take pause long…
